Throughout all this time, I have “clashed” with ideologies based solely on this phrase: “That’s the way it’s always been done…”.
What does the market for specialised machinery for turning systems offer? Multispindle, single-spindle, CNC machines, transfer…
What are the main characteristics of the most commonly used machines? And what, above all, are their limitations.
Here is a brief overview that can help to focus on both the potential and the main problems of the sector.
They say the latest generation of multispindles are much more precise. However, none can completely resolve all of the problems.
The new CNC multispindles have certainly improved production, but have not done away with the issue of bar stock vibrations. For this reason, traditional multispindles can never be as precise as a machine that processes cut bar.

Linea Spindle is not the universal solution for all circumstances.
For example, if you have to produce just one piece in very large quantities, with limited retooling, it is likely that traditional multi spindle machines offer better performance.
The cost per piece does not only come from the cycle time to machine price ratio. There are many other variables to take into account, especially when there are very large families of pieces, and various set-ups to organize. Among all the variables, it is particularly important to consider the retooling times.
In fact, calculating cycle time alone is simply not enough.
